“i didn't even know this part of the library existed.” rafe looks around at the tall bookshelves holding various very large textbooks.
“it's all the polisci books, hence why no one is over here.” you say as you move deeper into the section, to the isolated grouping of tables. you knew you already got lucky convincing your boyfriend to study, you don't want to push your luck by having him get annoyed with other students watching him.
rafe sets his computer bag down and pulls out his laptop, putting his back to the windows so he can keep an eye down the aisles of books, just in case anyone comes wandering by.
“okay.” you sit down next to him, pulling your chair closer. “i know your physics class is hard, but i also suck at physics so i don't know how much help studying im gonna be.”
“just having you here…” rafe trails off. you feel a flush come to your cheeks, rafe always managing to give you butterflies even though you've been together on and off since high school.
“okay.” you clear your throat, knowing you don't really need to be quiet with no one around. only the top floor of the library ever manages to stay silent, all the serious studiers know to immediately take the elevator up. “let's get started on the study guide i got from tiffy.”
your friend had a friend who had a friend who took the same physics class rafe is taking, and of course you convinced them to give you some study materials. it's not like you had to work hard, with rafes reputation on campus being what it is.
rafe nods and turns his attention to the crisp stapled together papers. you work with him through the questions, learning yourself as well for when you have to eventually take the class, wishing you chose a degree that didn't require so much natural science.
your focus shifts between sneaking looks at rafe and helping him, his brow furrowed and jaw hard set as he studies, making him look even more handsome than you thought possible.
“baby-” rafe groans, resorting to a pet name to get your full attention as you blink harshly. “you're distracting me.”
“you're the one being distracting.” you argue back, placing your elbow on the table and resting your chin in your hand, admiring your boyfriend unabashedly now that you've been caught.
“you're the one sitting there with that look on your face.”
“what look?” you hum out, lost in the thought of ripping rafes pants down and-
“that look.” rafe groans. “that fuck me look.”
“well i do want you to fuck me.” you smirk. “i always do.”
“shit.” rafe leans back in his chair, and your eyes naturally move down his defined body, his loose shirt falling into his muscles, his jeans already starting to tent at the crotch.
you move your chair even closer, pressing your lips against rafes jaw. “i want you.”
you place a hand on his thigh, leaving it still for mere seconds before moving up, rubbing over his hardness, feeling ever inch of his length as it grows.
you know he needs relief from pressing against the zipper, undoing the button and pushing the two sides of his jeans further open so you can reach in, gripping his cock over the fabric.
“you're so naughty.” rafe tsks.
“you're just too hot to resist.” you kiss rafes jaw again, knowing you can't be too obvious above the table, just in case.
your hand moves under the waistband of his boxers, feeling the warmth radiating from his body as your palm presses against his cock, watching with fascination as rafes eyes flutter closed.
“god you can't even go 24 hours without needing me.” rafe smirks, his voice dripping with cockiness.
truth is, it's been less than 12 hours since you spread your legs for rafe last night, moaning and holding back screams as he pumped into you in your shared dorm room, having paid off the university to get you on the married couples floor despite not having a ring on your finger.
you ignore the urge to pull rafes cock out and drop your mouth around him and slurp and suck for anyone to hear.
you stand up suddenly, making rafes body physically jerk as he loses the sensation of your touch.
you move around the table, humming softly to yourself as you make your way down the aisle directly in front of rafe, bending down, feigning looking for a book on the bottom shelf.
you know damn well your short skirt is putting your underwear on display for rafe as you grab a book with one hand while pulling your underwear down with the other, revealing your already wet pussy.
you let your panties fall to the ground as you stand up, book in hand. you snatch them off the ground and make your way back to rafe, whose mouth might as well be watering with the intense look of hunger and need on his face.
you drop the book onto the table, letting it clatter as you stuff your underwear into rafes jean pocket.
“cock out.” you hum.
rafe listens quickly, not usually one to follow yours or anyone else's orders, but he certainly won't push back against this one as he shoves his underwear down to underneath his balls, his cock standing at attention and ready for you.
you step between him and the table, rafes hands coming to grab your hips and stop you from sitting down too quickly. he leans forward and sinks his teeth into your cheeks over your skirt, hard enough to leave a bite mark and have you swallowing a moan.
rafe tugs you down, retaking control of the situation as he pushes you onto his cock in one smooth motion, and this time you can't help the sound that escapes your mouth, a whine of pleasure and pain as your walls are instantly stretched.
“you think you'd be used to me by now.” rafe chuckles in your ear, pushing you forward to rest your elbows against the table.
to anyone walking by, it would look like you were studying while sat on your boyfriends lap, and with your boyfriend being rafe, most people would scurry quickly away, not paying enough attention to realize your hips are moving up and down and rafe is gripping one of your thighs tightly while his other arm is wrapped around your waist.
“shit.” rafe moans quietly. “you're so warm.”
the air whooshing over your behind every time your skirt flounces as you move up and down adds to the shiver that runs down your spine.
“this is why-” you gasp as you sit up a little straighter to make it easier to bounce on his cock, feeling your pussy swallow him in with every movement inwards before gripping like your body doesn't want to be apart when you try to move. “this is why we never get any studying done.”
“because you're a whore for my cock?” rafe chuckles, his voice quiet as footsteps are heard, but they continue up the stairs to a different floor.
“because you always look too fucking good to not let you fuck me.”
rafes hips begin to snap upwards with the compliment. he's never had a problem getting girls, and experimented with other women during your breaks, but nobody moves him the way you do, you're the only one he can stand being with for any time longer than a night, the only one whose opinion he really cares about.
you're no longer being so subtle as your fingers dig into the wood grain of the table as rafes hands grip your hips, helping you move up and down in time to his hips raising up off the chair.
“you're gonna walk out of here filled with my cum.” rafe says, and you can practically hear the smirk on his face, knowing how much he loves marking his territory and leaving his claim on you.
“and you're gonna walk out of here with my wetness covering your cock.” you also smile, just as territorial as rafe is. you knew he was the one for you when no other cock could satisfy you, always wishing it was rafe until you got back together, your very last time apart.
“damn right.” rafe hums, hands fisting and gathering bunches of your skirt up so he can watch your ass as it moves, jiggling every time you sit fully down on his length.
“fuck.” you groan, body drooping forward as the elevator dings. you can hear the doors open as someone gets off on your floor.
you sit up straighter as rafe leans in, letting your skirt fall back around you, hiding the fact that he's inside of you at this very moment.
you listen closely as whoever it is walks down an aisle before getting a book off the shelf. you hope they'll walk away, but instead they continue towards your table until you see a college kid with headphones on you've never seen before.
you hope he'll see the two of you and flee, but he doesn't seem to notice as he sets his bag down on a chair before pulling out the one next to it.
“rafe…” you whisper as you feel his hips start to rock back and forth. “ssss… stop.”
you're not really concerned about a student seeing you, but you really don't want anyone to report you to the library.
“hey, kid.” rafe calls out, making the student jolt in surprise and look up, eyes widening as he realizes who he's looking at, but hopefully not what.
“fuck out of here.” rafe says, and the kid runs away and down the stairs faster than you thought possible.
“such a dick.” you chuckle, immediately beginning to move.
“says the one bouncing on my dick right now.” rafe chuckles. “you wanted him gone too.”
you place your hands on the table, ignoring rafes teasing as he starts to push up into you, putting all the strength you have left in your tired legs into your movements.
rafe reaches around your front and presses two fingertips against your clit, rubbing harshly knowing he can't last much longer and needs to get you there too, wanting to cum together.
“f-fuck.” you whine out, voice turning high pitched. “please. close.” you manage to say.
rafes cock swells inside of you and you can tell that he's not far either as he delivers a few finishing thrusts into your wet pussy before he bursts with a moan of your name, cum pumping into you as his fingers continue at the same pace.
you smack your ass down against his lap as you cum, his cock pushing so far inside of you that you swear he's in your womb.
his fingers play with your pulsing clit as you ride out your highs together until you suddenly become sensitive, having to shove his hand away to keep from crying out.
you are both breathing heavily, you slumped forward against the tabletop while rafe is slack against the back of the chair.
“shit.” rafe chuckles. “i completely forgot everything we just studied.”
you clench your pussy to keep from leaking as you pull off his cock, moving quickly to the seat next to you as your thighs almost immediately give out.
“well.” you lean back, both looking exhausted. “i'm gonna need a while before i can walk, so get back to it.”
rafe redoes his pants and leans forward to look back at the study guide, resigning to his fate as your eyes droop closed.

hi there, hope you're doing well! do you have any survival tips for freshmen starting their first semester at college? thanks!
Hello! Yes I do! Up until this Tuesday, all of my experience has been at a community college, but I have some universal advice!
Sage's supercool freshman survival guide:
You don't need expensive and a wide variety of school supplies. Here is a list of what you need:
A notebook for each class
A good pack of pens (i like gel pens)
A pack of pencils (+ sharpener) or mechanical pencils
Either colored pens, thin tip markers, or highlighters for notes
Ruler and calculator if you are taking math/science classes
A binder or folder for loose papers
GRAPH PAPER. Even just a pack of loose graph paper. It sucks when you need it and don't have it
2. it's better to take notes on paper vs on a computer unless you have some sort of reason (like dyslexia, visual impairment, or other physical disability etc) Taking paper notes forces your brain to pay attention better, and you can reference them easier than if you take them on a computer. (plus a lot of professors don't allow laptops in lectures unless you have an accommodation with the school)
3. GET A PLANNER! A PHYSICAL ONE!!!! Online calendars and planners are okay, but it is MUCH easier to forget assignments if they're out of sight. Get a paper planner, fill it out each week so you know what you're doing, and keep it opened on the current week somewhere you can see it. I personally like the planners intended for teachers because it divides the days up with individual subjects! This is the one I got for this school year
4. Get a giant ass water bottle. If you are going from class to class, you most likely won't have time to refill your water bottle. Get a huge one, fill it up at home or at your dorm or whatever, and carry it with you. I promise you it is worth adding an extra thing to carry (mine is a 1/2 gallon)
5. No one at college cares about stuff like in high school. No one cares what you're wearing or how you're doing your hair. In fact, individuality is ENCOURAGED. Wear bright colorful makeup or weird earrings. Do what makes you happy.
6. Pack yourself lunches and snacks that you can easily stuff in your face while walking to your next class. I'm a big fan of protein shakes and granola bars.
7. Ask questions! No one will think you're annoying for asking "too many" questions. It's better to over ask than under ask and not understand the topic. Chances are, at least one other person in the room has the same question as you.
8. Similar to number 7, most professors will gladly go back and explain a topic again or in a different way! Just politely and respectfully ask for them to briefly go over it again, or define a word you don't understand.
9. Unlike high school, most professors don't care, and will actually get annoyed if you interrupt their lesson to ask to go to the bathroom or take a phone call or even leave class early. Unless they explicitly say you can't leave (like during a test) you can just walk out, no questions asked.
10. Do every extra credit assignment you can. Even if you have a good grade in the class. You never know when you'll forget an assignment or lose points for something small. It's good to have backup.
11. Just like in a good relationship, communication with professors is everything.
12. Make connections with people in your classes. You don't have to be besties, but introduce yourself to a few people in class, make small talk, and get their phone numbers. That way you can discuss assignments or get notes if you miss a class.
13. DO NOT slack on first week assignments. Most professors WILL drop you if you A. Don't attend the first week of classes and/or B. Don't turn in the first few assignments.
14. Register for classes as soon as you possibly can. Like if your group is able to register at 9am, be in front of your computer with the registration site open at 8:55am, just to be ready.
15. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS CHECK RATEMYPROFESSOR BEFORE REGISTERING FOR CLASSES!!! NEVER IN YOUR LIFE REGISTER WITHOUT CHECKING. IF YOU ARE LATE TO REGISTER AND A GENERAL EDUCATION CLASS AT THE PERFECT TIME SLOT IS COMPLETLEY OPEN, IT IS FOR A FUCKING REASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rate my professor is really accurate because people are able to submit honest reviews anonymously after the class is over. If someone says the teacher is a hard ass who is flakey and assigns a lot of reading, BELIEVE IT. Ideally you want a professor that has above a 3.5/5 rating.
16. There is no shame in needing accommodations for a disability, and getting accommodations in college is a lot easier than in k-12 school. You just need to make a request and submit proof of disability, and you'll meet with someone to give you accommodations.
17. DO NOT buy textbooks until the first week of class is over. This is for 2 reasons. 1. you might need to drop the class and 2. most professors will just give you a link to the textbook for free or post individual chapters every week. There is no point in spending $200 for a textbook you might not even use.
18. I think at every college, you can drop a class with no consequences or anything on your record as long as you drop it within the first week or so (the exact time differs depending on the college, but it's always on their website)
19. Colleges very often have events with free food or free merch. Even if you have no interest in the event, a free hot dog is a free hot dog yk?
20. If you're a freshman, literally no one knows each other and everyone is worrying about making new friends. Literally everyone. Find someone who seems cool, compliment their outfit or say something about the class/the college, and boom. New friend.
21. If you have time, join a club! Colleges have clubs for EVERYTHING and it's an easy way to connect with people who have the same interests.
22. Before your first day of class, if you're neurotic like me, take time to think of a few things: 2 truths and a lie, 3 fun facts about yourself, your favorite __, etc. Just so you can be ready for icebreakers (I actually don't know if other people are as scared of first day icebreakers as me.... Every semester I prepare 2 truths and a lie and fun facts about me so I'm ready. Just in case. This just might be my specific flavor of autism though...)
23. Colleges are big, even community colleges. Make yourself a playlist and bring headphones for walking from class to class
24. Jumping off 23, when you're choosing your classes, pull up a map of your campus. Learn how long of a walk it is from building to building, so you can make sure you have enough time to walk to your next class. This goes double if you have a physical disability. I personally need some extra time so I can drink water and walk slowly.
25. Prioritize comfort over style. Most people by the third week will just be wearing tshirts/sweaters with jeans/sweatpants. There also usually isn't a super strict dress code at college. I had a girl in my astronomy class that exclusively wore bikini tops and booty shorts, and she never had any problems.
26. It's easy to tunnel vision and schedule your classes back to back, but try to give yourself at least one gap for lunch, to stretch, or to just hang out. I have 3 on campus classes this semester and my morning class ends at 11:45am and my second class doesn't start until 1:00pm. You're (most likely) an adult, close to an adult, or have adult responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is to take initiative to take care of yourself.
27. College professors, unless they're abnormally strict, literally don't care about anything, as long as your ass is in the chair and you're not being disruptive to others. Drinking water in class? Fine. Doodling on your notes? Fine. Doing homework for another class? Fine, as long as you look up like you're paying attention occasionally. I wrote amphibia fanfiction in my classes, and I had a girl in my public speaking class who literally brought yarn and a crochet hook and crocheted stuff in class.
28. OH that's another thing! Literally no one cares about your public speaking skills. In college, it is inevitable that you'll have to take one class with speeches. People aren't waiting for you to slip up to mock you. Most people are too focused on their own speeches. I took a public speaking class last year, and I genuinely could not tell you the topic of even ONE other student's speech. It is very likely that 90% of the people won't even be paying attention to your presentation because they're worrying about if they're next.
29. In group projects, be a bitch. I'm serious. DO NOT do all the work. If people in your group aren't moving, assign them their share of work. If they still don't participate, threaten to leave. If they still don't, ask the teacher to work alone. You NEED to stand up for yourself.
30. Most colleges have a lot of services for free (or included in tuition) you should use. The library is a great resource, I'm typing this on the laptop I rented for free from my school, and I believe my college has completely free STD checks and birth control options available through their health services.
31. Expand your horizons! In college, you get a LOT of options for electives and classes. Take the fun classes or a topic you've never heard of! I'm taking a philosophy of disability class this semester for my extra humanities credit.
32. Build a good relationship with your professors. It never hurts to go up to them before or after the first class and introduce yourself.
33. DO NOT leave things for the last minute. I like to write down all my assignments for the week in my planner, sorted by due date, color coded, and plan which assignments I'm going to do on what days.
34. Take advantage of professor's office hours, especially if it's a subject you're not strong in. Personally, I'm not the best at math, and the summer I took statistics for psych, I was at my professor's office hours every single Tuesday. Even if you think you understand the subject perfectly, you never know when you're making a mistake without realizing it. It can just be a less than 5 minute zoom visit of like "hey, this is my answer to question 5 and here's my work/process. Is this correct? Yes? Okay thanks see you in class"
35. Summer classes, especially in community colleges, are a great way to get extra credits and make it so you don't have such a heavy load during the regular school year. A lot of summer classes are online, so it's really easy to do at home. But.....
36. ...NEVER IN YOUR LIFE TAKE A SUBJECT YOU ARE NOT STRONG IN OR A SUBJECT WITH A LOT OF WORK IN A CONDENSED SUMMER CLASS. Summer classes are always more work per week because you have less time to go through the curriculum, so be sure it's a light class. I took my world religions class as an 8 week summer class and oh my god.... I am being 100% serious and not exaggerating when I say I had to read 500-750+ pages a week......... be careful
37. Make time for other things! Even if you're full time school and work, let yourself watch an episode of your favorite show after homework or during a break. Rest and recreation is important too.
38. Treat yourself! When I was a kid, my mom would let me and my brother pick out a little candy at the grocery store for a "friday treat" during the school year. I still do that. It can be as simple as buying a $2 chocolate bar or finally trying that bath bomb you got as a gift.
39. You are inevitably going to get a low grade on something. You're going to struggle with a subject or misunderstand an instruction. Not one single person has made it through all of college without getting anything less than a 100%. Ask for feedback from your professors. Don't beat yourself up.
40. You don't have to have a backpack. I use a green messenger bag with embroidered mushrooms on it :3
Hope this helps!

Soobin + Helping Y/N with maths
Ngl,I thought he was genuinely bad at maths until I saw him help Hyuka with his homework.
I hope that you have a wonderful day/night🤍
a/n: I am so genuinely bad at math (aka: I failed math so miserably both time I have taken it here at university and now have to take it again). I hope this is good. inbox is always open for anything !!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
math was genuinely testing you this semester and you hated it so much! you would sit there all night, in front of your computer, searching up videos about concepts you were supposed to learn in class. it's not like you weren't going to class either. you just had the worst math professor in existence! they had no idea what they were doing and when it was time to leave class, everyone just looked so dazed and confused because of the 2 hours of confusion they just faced.
tonight was a whole different beast. you were supposed to memorize the unit circle and things were not making any sense to you. math just seem like a bunch of numbers that had rules with a hundred and one different exceptions. how were you supposed to memorize any of this, let alone apply it to the questions on your homework?
it's currently 12 am and there you are, still at your desk, practically pulling all of the hair fro your scalp. soobin was coming home late so you knew you could get away with staying up late like this. he never let you stay up too late to study, arguing that you needed sleep to even get nay work done.
a few minutes after 12 struck, you were too busy to even heard the bedroom door open, revealing a tired looking soobin. he had showered at the dorm before coming to your apartment for the night. he saw you at your desk and sighed, which snapped you out of your studying. you turn to him and gasp, putting your hands over your chest, "soobin! you scared me! what the hell?" you look back at your computer and notebook, "ugh...this is torture!" soobin put down his things in the corner he always left them at and went straight to your side. "math?" he asked, looking at the screen at your scratch paper. you only nod and drop your head into your hands. he rubs your back gently, "here, why don't you let me help? I know it's against my rules to study this late but let's give it a try." you nod up at him and he smiled, kissing your forehead.
you two had taken this study session to the kitchen, taking a little break to gather some drinks and cook some ramyeon to fuel both your brains for the night ahead. once you both were back at the table, ready to go, soobin too a Quick Look at your assignment. he thought for a second and you both started to get to work. he carefully and thoroughly explained the first problem to you and how he would solve it. he shows you his work and writes down all the steps neatly on a pice of paper. once this problem was solved, he lets you work on the next one, which was much easier because you were able to look at the example problem me made for you and were able to clearly see the steps he took. the smile on your face when you finally understood and got the problem correct was a smile he could never erase from his mind. it made his heart warm.
after your assignment was done and the food and drinks were all gone, it was finally time to get ready for bed. all throughout your skincare routine and brushing your teeth, you thanked soobin for being such. great help. "hey, I thought you said you hated math?" he chuckles, "well, I do but that doesn't mean im not good at it." you sign and rolls your eyes, "we can't all be special like you, big dummy." "hey! I wasn't dumb when I was helping you just a few minutes ago!"

A New Type of Fear
Donatello x Fem Reader
Summary: After meeting Donnie online, your relationships starts tettering on the line of casual. You've never seen a picture of him, you start to question his commitment to the relationship.
Word Count: 2k+
<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3
Part 2 is now posted! <3
You pack your bag up, putting away your notebooks and untangling your headphones. It was Friday and the entire class was bubbling with excitement for the weekend; You shared that feeling. It had been a really long week. Once the bell rang, everyone ran out so fast that the door was bottlenecking. You didn't bother getting up for a couple moments, knowing you'd have to wait to get out the door, anyway.
"Thank you, Mrs. Cleverson. Hope you have a good weekend," you said, throwing your backpack over your shoulders.
"Oh Y|N, I'm glad I caught you. I wanted to give you this flier from the teacher's lounge. There is a chess competition this weekend for students K-12. I think you have a really good shot at winning. The prize is 200 dollars cash and a trophy. No harm in trying, right?" She said handing you the paper.
"Thanks, I'll let you know how it goes on Monday," you said, walking towards the now empty doorway.
"Good luck!" she called out to you as you walked out.
You put on your coat, it was late November in New York and the cold was intense. You put one of your headphones in and start walking towards the subway. You were excited to get home and tell your friend Donnie about the chess competition. You met on Chess.com as mutuals and your friendship grew from there. One of the main reasons you liked him was because he preferred to talk on the phone rather than text back and forth. Not only that, he was really smart and was extremely good at communicating. He was easy to talk to, it was nice to talk with a guy and not have your feelings shot down or mansplained back to you.
You've been talking with him for 8 months now, and maybe you were miss reading him but he seemed to be into you. Always getting quiet when you talk about boys flirting with you at your work. Insinuating that he wishes he could have been there for you in a time of need or a bad day. You would try to avoid thinking too deeply about it by telling yourself he was just being friendly. You did have reservations about getting as close as you have with Donnie. You'd never seen a picture of him or talked to him over facetime/video chat. This is obviously a red flag for multiple reasons. He always said he was insecure and didn't like showing his face to people on the internet. That was understandable enough but as time progressed you grew sick of that logic.
You walked down the concrete stairs, making your way to the subway. It was only a 15 minute ride from the stop closest to your school and your apartment. You pulled your phone out and texted Donnie, letting him know you'll be home in 20 minutes and asking if they could talk on the phone for a bit. He immediately texted you back agreeing. The station wasn't too packed and was filled mostly with other students. You got a text from your mother saying she was going to be working late which was typical. After getting off the subway and walking the 5 minutes home, you throw a couple of frozen hot wings into the oven.
You get into your bedroom and set your backpack down next to your desk. You grab your chair and plop yourself down before whirling our computer up. You pulled your knees to your chest and opened Discord. You smiled seeing that he tried to call you once already.
"Hey Donnie," you said once you saw that he was on call.
"Hi Y|N, how was school?" he asked.
"Boring, glad it's over," you said.
"You say that almost everyday," he said.
"Consistent honesty," you said laughing before continuing, "guess what?" you asked rhetorically.
"hmm?" He said.
"There is a Chess competition tomorrow, 200 dollars cash for the winner. Obviously I'm gonna be there but what about you?" you asked, picking at a hangnail.
"I would love to be there and watch you dominate but I can't," he said.
"But why? I know you told me that you value your privacy but.. I don't know. I thought we were starting to get serious and I really want to meet you face to face," you said, trying hard to keep a neutral tone.
"I know, I do think we're serious. I care about you so much, you know that. My dad is strict and although he allows me to be online we had an agreement that I would remain anonymous," he said.
"So even when we start dating you're going to be anonymous?" you said, he didn't respond for a while.
"I guess I didn't realize how serious you were about us. I'll try and talk to my dad and see what he says," Donnie said, sounding rather somber.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to be aggressive about it," you said.
"No it's okay. You're just expressing your emotions about the situation. You have valid points, same as I. I'm gonna try and get permission," he said, he didn't sound mad but more defeated.
"I'm not mad at you but I gotta go, my brother has been trying to get on the computer for the last 45 minutes. I'll text you?" he asked.
"Yeah, maybe we can talk again later tonight?" you asked.
"For sure," he said; you spent the next couple hours worried if you had pushed a little too hard. Saying how you felt so bluntly didn't make you feel better the way you thought it would.
~
Donatello logged off and turned off the computer. He was completely beside himself, he knew that he was setting you up for disappointment; if his father found out he was on the internet in such a deep way, he would lose his mind. So of course there was no possible way to ask his father to go out for something other than a mission, let alone for a girl. He walked into the living room where his brothers were fighting for the remote. Donnie chuckled to himself, knowing the last time they did this the remote broke.
The fighting stopped immediately as Splinter walked in holding four pizzas. Everyone including Donnie sat down at the table to eat. It was a long day of training so everyone was pretty hungry. Mikey was going on and on about how 'his girlfriend' aka Ice Spice was dropping a new music video today. Splinter rolled his eyes as he took his first bite of his five cheese pizza. Leo and Raph were telling everyone about a new martial art move they recently mastered. Donnie didn't have much of an appetite, he was beside himself. It was frustrating that things couldn't be simpler, he loved his family but it's hard being cooped up all the time.
They never talked about anything outside the sewer, martial arts, crime ect. He sometimes imagined them, old and shriveled trying to eat pizza with no teeth. What would they do after Splinter dies? There was so much unknown about the future and now with Y|N it made him think about it so much more. He was worried that once she saw him, she would be scared and run away. It was a type of rejection would break him, especially because he cared so deeply about Y|N. He made up an excuse that he wasn't feeling well and went to bed early.
~
You took a hot shower after talking with Donnie, it helped take some of the stiffness out of your body. Honestly, you feel a lot better when you remind yourself that he validated your feelings. Knowing that he understood where you were coming from. You turned the water off and wrapped the soft brown towel around yourself. You walk back to your room and sit on the floor directly in front of your closet door mirror. After plugging in your blow dryer you began the long process of fully drying your entire head. The contest started at 12pm tomorrow so you wanted to make sure your hair was done the night before.
Donnie told you he wasn't feeling well and that he was going to be early. He said he was going to make an effort to be there but you didn't want to get your hopes up for nothing. Your mom came in and kissed you on the top of your head when she got home from work. This made you feel a bit better. Once you finish your hair, you lay in bed. Scrolling mindlessly until drifting off to sleep.
The next morning you woke up and immediately started getting ready for the Chess Competition. You really tried not to get your hopes over Donnie coming but, as you did your hair and make-up it was all you could think about. It made you feel stressed knowing that if he did show up, you both would be seeing each other for the first time. You wanted to look good but it did worry that it would make male competitors take you less seriously. After a while you just stopped caring about what other people might think.
Your mom ended up dropping you off at the competition, it was hosted at your school. You walked into the quad and there were only about 12 other people there. This was a good thing in your case because you knew it would only help your chances of winning. After signing up and getting your name tag, you sat down next to a group of peers who were waiting for the matches to start. None of them were talking, just staring at their phones. You did the same, texting Donnie to ask if he was coming or not. You didn't know what he looked like but you figured if he was one of the people you were sitting with, he would approach you. Especially because he had seen pictures of you.
Once the first match began you didn't have time to think about Donnie. You were more concerned with the aspect of winning at this point. It wasn't super late but because it was winter the sun was fully set by 4:15. All the competitors had a lunch break towards the end, which you used to call Donnie a couple of times with no answer. It really bothered you that he didn't even reach out to say he couldn't make it. That was not super normal for him, you expected more.
Those feelings of grief were short lived once you won the competition. You were really happy, excited to tell your mom and Mrs.Cleverson. Once everyone headed out, the high you got from winning began to fade. You had left 7 messages throughout the day and he never responded to any of them. On top of that, your mom was working late so you had to take the subway home. You throw your coat on and make your way outside. It was snowing slightly, which meant it was going to be a long way home. You checked your phone again texting Donnie that you were frustrated about him not being honest.
Immediately after you started your trek, you felt uneasy. There was a guy following you for the past couple blocks. You know he was intentionally stalking because you kept making random turns or crossing the street to head in the opposite direction you were coming from. You cut through an alley thinking you were getting away however another guy was walking towards you from the other end. When you turned around, the original man was blocking your way which caused both men to break out in laughter. You tried to run but one of the men grabbed you by your arm. You were scared out of your mind, trying to think of your next move.
Suddenly you hear a loud banging sound and feel the ground shake a bit. All three of you look up and see a monster of a man. At least 6 '7 or 6' 8; not only did this person have height but an enormous build, like if a body builder could take as many steroids as they wanted without side effects. The predators immediately ran the other direction, you didn't both look back at them. Your eyes were settled on this person, they weren't moving closer to you.
"Are you okay?" the mystery person asked. Your brain immediately recognized the voice from the daily phone calls from the past 8 months.
"Donatello?" You asked, walking closer to him.
"Yeah, I don't even know what to say. I'm really-" you interrupted him by running up and embracing him in a tight hug. He dropped his staff and wrapped his arms around you, trying not to crush you.
"Thank you for being here," you said crying into his arms, taking in what could have happened if he wasn't there. He ended up making sure you got home safely, as you warned him about the 12 thousand questions you had for him.

Build Me Up, Buttercup | Professor!Joel Miller x Student!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Reader confronts Dr. Miller about her grade in his class.
Warnings: Not much yet. Reader is of legal age, no less than 22 but not specified, she's about to graduate college. She’s an English major. This is grumpy x grumpy. Lots of snark, eyerolling, etc. Not-Quite-Enemies to Lovers. And no she doesn’t blow him to get a better grade! (I would, but reader is classy).
Word Count: 1.1k
Why Do You Build Me Up
(Buttercup)
Tumblr media
Dr. Miller’s Foundations of Architecture class was supposed to be a fun elective for you. You could learn a little more about architecture, something that has always been a mild interest for you. You like pretty buildings and you think it’s a cool subject. It’s your last semester of college and you deserve to take something fun to fill in that last elective requirement.
You certainly were not supposed to fail the fucking class.
“He’s so rude, Cooper,”  you tell your friend. Coop looks up at you over their laptop, red curls springing in every direction and glasses sitting on the tip of their nose. They’re feigning interest while they hammer away at some graphic design assignment.
“One time he made a guy who said he liked 432 Park Ave leave the class. Like just kicked him out for the rest of the day! I mean that building is awful, but still!” Coop heaves a sigh and shuts their laptop.
“Is this that hot professor you told me about or is it the one who always wears really weird outfits?”
“No! The weird outfits guy is my Chaucer professor,” you choose to ignore the first half of that question. “I have words for him too, actually. He keeps-”
“Focus! Why are you failing Arc?”
“His essays are insane! Like, this is not English class, my guy, why are you grading me so hard? I’m literally an English major! You’d think my writing would be more than acceptable for a freshman level class.”
He had given you a D on your paper about gothic architecture. You’d chosen to write about the Santa Maria del Fiore in Italy and he took off THREE letter grades because they finished the construction in the neo-gothic style… which you had made a whole section of your paper about. It’s perfectly valid. It’s not like he really gave you much to go on.
“Did you follow the prompt? Sometimes your brain takes you places the question didn’t exactly call for…” they give you a knowing look.
“This isn’t a fanfic writing challenge, Coop, I can follow a damn prompt. He doesn’t give us anything to go on at all for these essays! Or for anything else, really.”
He is the least verbose professor you have ever had. It’s honestly kind of refreshing for a man to not love the sound of his own voice, but you’re also paying him to teach you something.
“The essay prompt was literally ‘Gothic Architecture’ and the guidelines were ‘12 pages, double spaced, due March 19th.’" You drop your voice into its lowest register, mimicking Dr. Miller's deep baritone. "And that’s what I wrote!” Someone shushes you from behind a bookshelf. You’re getting a little over excited, borderline yelling in the library about this infuriating man.
“Have you tried going to his office hours?” God why are they always so reasonable?
“Have you tried going to his office hours… No. I have not. He’s rude, remember?”
“Just try it! What’s the worst that could happen?”
“He could drop my paper down to an F.”
“And you could report him for unfair grading practices. Go. Shoo,” Coop starts pushing your books toward your bag.
“Fiiiiiine,” you relent.
Tumblr media
Twenty minutes later you find yourself standing in the doorway of his office. Dr. Miller is sitting behind a large wooden desk. It’s very neat, the only things on it a computer, a picture frame turned away from you, and a stack of books. Dr. Miller has one of the books open and is writing something in a notebook, brow furrowed and tongue poking out between his lips.
“Dr. Miller?” you ask hesitantly.
He doesn’t look up from his work, just lifts a hand vaguely in your direction for a second and keeps writing. You roll your eyes and look around the office. There are bookshelves lining the walls with architecture textbooks in neat rows. A few covers of Architectural Digest are framed on the wall. Is he in those?
Your eyes land back on him. He’s wearing a dark grey Fleetwood Mac shirt that looks old as hell. The collar is stretched, revealing a bit of his chest. Your eyes trace a line up the column of this throat… He has a nice neck.
You had called him your hot professor at the beginning of the semester, regardless of how you felt about him now. There’s just something about that fluffy bed head he always has, like he couldn’t be bothered to run a comb through it. And the scruffy beard laced with grey he doesn’t seem keen on trimming. And the way his mustache frames his pouty lips. And his prominent nose that looks straight out of a painting. And okay that’s enough.
“Dr. Miller, I need to talk to you.”
“M’busy,” he mumbles out, still not looking up from the textbook.
“Okay, well it’s your office hours, so technically you have to talk to me.”
“Technically, little miss, I don’t have to do anything.”
“Excuse me? Let’s not speak to grown women like they’re children, sir.” Is he fucking for real right now?
He closes his notebook and looks at you for the first time since you walked in. Probably the first time all semester. He kind of pauses when he sees you, hopefully realizing he isn’t talking to a freshman. It wouldn’t make the little nickname okay, but it would make more sense at least.
He looks you up and down and his jaw ticks, “Sit.” His eyes flick to the chair in front of his desk. You drop your bag on the floor and slide into the seat. “So. What can I help you with?”
You take a deep breath. “You gave me a D on my last paper.”
He just stares at you.
“And considering our prompt was all of 8 words, I think- I know I met the requirements and that I did a good job. It was thoroughly researched, structured well, copy and content edited, and turned in 2 days before deadline. I would like an explanation-”
“Enough,” he cuts you off. “I don’t have to justify my gradin’ decisions to you.”
You let out a frustrated puff of air. This man drives you insane. “Dr. Miller, I’m a senior. I took this class to fulfill an elective requirement and because I like architecture. I would like to understand what is so egregious about my writing that you would have me fail a class in my last semester of college.”
He considers you for a moment, meeting your eyes. He lowers his brow, screws up his mouth from side to side, like he’s thinking hard about something. “I’ll reread it.”
Not I’ll reconsider your grade, but at least it’s something. “Thank you.” You grab your bag, moving to leave, and he stops you.
“Wait!” You pause, arching an eyebrow. “What was your name again?” He doesn’t even have the decency to look embarrassed.
“Seriously? I’ve been in your class since January. Figure it out.”
You storm out, slamming the door behind you.

Note
Hi so I’m an incoming freshman I have autism and ADHD I was wondering do you have any tips for high school specifically for people with autism and ADHD like me? Thank you for your time!!
Hi there,
It’s been out of school since 2015, so I’m rusty with tips. However I did find one article listing 12 tips that might help:
1. You don’t need ONE study space.
A well-stocked desk in a quiet place at home is key, but sometimes you need variety. Coffee shops, libraries, parks, or even just moving to the kitchen table will give you a change of scenery which can prompt your brain to retain information better.
2. Track more than HW in your school planner.
Keeping a calendar helps you plan ahead—but you’ve got more going on than just homework assignments! Make sure you’re marking your extracurricular, work, and social commitments, too. (Tests, band practice, away games, SAT dates, half-days and holidays are just a few examples of reminders for your planner.)
3. Start small.
If you’ve got a big assignment looming, like a research paper, stay motivated by completing a piece of the project every few days. Write one paragraph each night. Or, do 5 algebra problems from your problem set at a time, and then take a break.
4. School supplies (alone) don’t make you organized.
Come up with a system and keep to it. Do you keep one big binder for all your classes with color-coded tabs? Or do you prefer to keep separate notebooks and a folder for handouts? Keep the system simple—if it’s too fancy or complicated, you are less likely to keep it up everyday.
5. Get into a routine.
When will you make the time to do your homework every day? Find the time of day that works best for you (this can change day-to-day, depending on your schedule!), and make a plan to hit the books.
6. Learn how to create a distraction-free zone.
A study on workplace distractions found that it takes workers an average of 25 minutes to return to what they were working on pre-interruption. Try turning off your phone notifications or blocking Twitter (temporarily) on your computer so you can concentrate on the homework tasks at hand.
7. Get real.
When you’re looking at the homework you have to get done tonight, be realistic about how long things actually take. Gauging that reading a history chapter will take an hour and writing a response will take another 30 minutes will help you plan how you spend your time.
8. Use class time wisely.
Is your teacher finished lecturing, but you still have 10 minutes of class left? Get a jump on your chemistry homework while it’s still fresh in your mind. Or use the time to ask your teacher about concepts that were fuzzy the first time.
9. Look over your notes each night to make sure you've got it.
Fill in details, edit the parts that don’t make sense, and star or highlight the bits of information that you know are most important. Interacting with your notes will help you remember them. You can also use Homework Help to get your questions answered 24/7.
10. Study a little every day.
Cramming Spanish vocabulary for a quiz might work in the short-term, but when comes time to study for midterms, you’ll be back at square 1. You might remember the vocab list long enough to ace the quiz, but reviewing the terms later will help you store them for the long haul.
11. Don’t let a bad grade keep you down.
A rough start to the semester doesn’t have to sink your GPA. Take proactive steps by checking your grades regularly online and getting a tutor if you need one.
12. Make a friend in every class.
Find a few people you can contact from each of your classes if you have a homework question or had to miss class (and do the same for them!).  Then when it comes time to study for exams, you'll already have a study group.
The article will be below:
I hope this helps. Thank you for the inbox. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

tag game time! :] as tagged by @clownnoise
rules: if you get tagged in this, answer the questions that are written and make sure to swap out one (1) question at the end of it for the next person to answer. exciting!
#1 Are you named after anyone? a part of it follows a Thing filipinos do where they just mash together two names to make an entirely new name, so. yes, to say the least
#2 Do you ever go window shopping on sites like Etsy, and if so, what kinds of things do you look at? not etsy but sometimes i look at the squishables site and look at all the stuffed animals i want. hot take but squishables > squishmallows by a wide margin. how can you get any more perfect than my good friend who sits politely near my computer, star rat? :)
Tumblr media
#3 Do you have kids? nah
#4 Do you use sarcasm? kind of but i try not to in the internet space, on account of tone being lost. in real life, my parents call me out for being a smart-ass on occasion (they don’t say that specifically but its basically that connotation-wise), but honestly it’s 90% my tone and being blunt than the actual content so, Big Shrug Noise
#5 What’s the first thing you notice about people? uhhhhhh clothes i think? maybe hair
#6 What’s your eye color? dark brown
#7 Scary movies or happy endings? i love the concept of certain kinds of horror on paper because i sure do love Themes, but i cannot watch it on account of being scared easily. so Happy Endings
#8 Any special talents? UHHHHHHH
#9 "What trait in others draws you to them?" honestly, its the Initial Vibes. i know that’s super vague, but really the thing that makes me stay is how well we hit it off in a conversation
#10 What are your hobbies? drawing, writing, (trying to) knit, playing virtual pet sites and video games, setting up excel spreadsheets to organize things (whether it be for assorted fanworks i’m actually working on, theorycrafting an entire fakedex, or games i’ll never make)
#11 Do you have any pets? ...do my neopets and pets on subeta count,
#12 What sports do you play/have played? outside the ones mandated by gym class, none because i was (and still kind of am) a shut-in nerd
#13 How tall are you? not terribly tall. i haven’t really checked but maybe 5′3″???
#14 Favorite subject in school? you’d think it was art, but it was actually english (and creative writing)
#15 Dream job? you know if you asked me this years ago i would have said animator, but as a result of nearly burning out by trying to get into an animation course and the general state of the industry, i honestly don’t know at this point. but that’s a bleak note to end on, so i’ll say Something To Do With Comics and leave it at there. maybe also just being part of a concept art team, really
tagging: @g1itchb0y-advanced @hey-hey-j @muffintonic @escarlatafox, if you want to. and anyone who wants to do this
and im changing #3 to What’s you choice of listening material when doing stuff?

Understanding JEE Main vs. JEE Advanced: Key Differences and Preparation Tips
Tumblr media
Introduction
Preparing for engineering entrance exams in India means tackling the JEE, which includes two exams: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Both are necessary for getting into top engineering colleges like the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). However, JEE Main and JEE Advanced have significant differences, including difficulty level, structure, and purpose. Knowing these differences and how to prepare for each exam can help you feel confident on your journey to becoming an engineer. Many students seek guidance from the best coaching for JEE in Karnataka to ensure they are well-prepared for both exams. Let’s break down the main differences between these two exams and explore some helpful preparation strategies.
What is JEE Main?
JEE Main is the first exam you need to take if you’re aiming to attend engineering colleges in India. It’s organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and happens twice a year, typically in January and April. This allows students to try improving their scores if needed. JEE Main covers topics from the 11th and 12th-grade Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics syllabus, making it mainly about fundamental concepts.
The JEE Main exam serves two purposes. First, it’s the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is necessary for students aiming to study at IITs. Second, it’s the gateway to NITs, IIITs, and other government-funded engineering colleges. If you’re interested in IITs, you must pass JEE Main and meet the cut-off score to qualify for JEE Advanced.
Key Points of JEE Main
Exam Pattern and Structure: JEE Main consists of two papers. Paper 1 is for engineering aspirants, and it’s a computer-based test with multiple-choice and numerical questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. Paper 2 is for students interested in architecture and planning courses.
Syllabus: The topics are drawn from the Class 11 and 12 (CBSE) curriculum. The questions may be tricky, but they mostly focus on testing your grasp of basic concepts.
Scoring and Eligibility: Your score in JEE Main is important because it determines whether you qualify for JEE Advanced. Top scores can also lead to a good All India Rank (AIR), used by NITs and IIITs in their admission process.
What is JEE Advanced?
JEE Advanced is the next level for students aiming to get into IITs. It’s organised by the IITs themselves on a rotating basis, and it’s known to be significantly more challenging than JEE Main. Only students who achieve the required cut-off score in JEE Main are eligible to take JEE Advanced.
While JEE Main focuses on foundational knowledge, JEE Advanced tests your problem-solving skills at a much deeper level. It requires students to combine multiple concepts to solve complex questions, so a solid understanding and an ability to think critically are essential for success.
Key Points of JEE Advanced
Exam Pattern and Structure: JEE Advanced has two papers, both of which are compulsory. Each paper is three hours long and contains multiple-choice questions, numerical value questions, and other question types. The pattern and marking scheme can vary, with different types of questions in each section and sometimes negative marking.
Syllabus: The JEE Advanced syllabus is based on the same Class 11 and 12 material but goes deeper into each topic. The questions are designed to be more analytical and often combine multiple topics in a single question.
Selection Process: Unlike JEE Main, JEE Advanced ranks students based on their aggregate marks across both papers. Only a limited number of seats are available in IITs, making the competition for each seat intense.
Key Differences Between JEE Main and JEE Advanced
Purpose: JEE Main is required for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other government institutions, while JEE Advanced is only for admission to IITs.
Difficulty Level: JEE Main is generally considered easier and focuses on basic applications of concepts. In contrast, JEE Advanced is known for its tough, complex questions that test problem-solving skills.
Structure: JEE Main has a consistent exam pattern, whereas JEE Advanced changes its structure every year, making it less predictable.
Preparation Tips for JEE Main and JEE Advanced
To prepare for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced, a balanced approach is essential, as the exams focus on different skill sets. Here are some practical tips:
Build Strong Fundamentals: Since JEE Main tests basic concepts, make sure you have a clear understanding of foundational topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Math. This knowledge will also help you tackle more advanced questions in JEE Advanced. Many students choose the best coaching for JEE in Bangalore to get expert guidance in these subjects.
Practice with Mock Tests: Taking timed mock tests regularly helps you get used to the actual exam environment, improves your time management skills, and helps you identify areas where you need improvement.
Deepen Conceptual Knowledge: JEE Advanced is more analytical, so practice questions that combine multiple concepts. This helps you develop a problem-solving approach essential for Advanced-level questions.
Select Quality Study Material: Use study materials that explain concepts clearly and are well-aligned with the JEE syllabus. Resources like NCERT books, reputable reference books, and study materials provided by the best coaching for JEE in Karnataka can be valuable for in-depth preparation.
Consider Coaching for Guidance: A structured coaching program can offer personalised guidance, study resources, and a routine to keep you on track. Online JEE coaching in Bengaluru has become popular for providing flexible, quality instruction that allows students to learn from home.
Focus on Time Management: JEE exams are lengthy, so practising with time constraints is crucial. Taking timed practice tests will improve your speed, accuracy, and ability to manage stress.
Regular Revision: Schedule time for regular revision to ensure you retain critical formulas, concepts, and shortcuts. This will keep information fresh and help you perform well on test day.
Take Care of Your Health: Staying physically and mentally fit is essential for optimal performance. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and short breaks during study sessions can prevent burnout and improve focus.
Conclusion
The path to cracking JEE Main and JEE Advanced can be challenging, but understanding the differences between the exams and preparing accordingly can increase your chances of success. JEE Main is a foundation that tests basic knowledge, while JEE Advanced requires advanced problem-solving skills. With the right strategies and support—whether through coaching, quality study material, or online resources like Online JEE coaching in Bengaluru—you can confidently tackle both exams and maximise your potential.
By staying disciplined, practising consistently, and focusing on understanding rather than rote learning, students can set themselves up for success in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Good luck on your journey!
FAQs: Understanding JEE Main vs. JEE Advanced: Key Differences and Preparation Strategies
What is the main difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced?JEE Main is the first level of the Joint Entrance Examination and primarily tests fundamental knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, and Math. It serves as both a gateway to NITs, IIITs, and other government-funded engineering colleges and a qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is required for admission to IITs. JEE Advanced is more difficult, with complex, analytical questions that test deeper problem-solving skills.

Using spatial learning to transform math and science education
Legend has it that Isaac Newton was sitting under a tree when an apple fell on his head, sparking a bout of scientific thinking that led to the theory of gravity. It’s one of the most famous stories in science, perhaps because it shows the power of simple human experiences to revolutionize our understanding of the world around us.
About five years ago, Anurupa Ganguly ’07, MNG ’09 noticed kids don’t learn that way in schools.
“Students should learn how to use language, notation, and eventually shorthand representation of thoughts from deeply human experiences,” Ganguly says.
That’s the idea behind PrismsVR. The company offers virtual reality experiences for students, using physical learning to teach core concepts in math and science.
The platform can radically change the dynamics of the classroom, encouraging self-paced, student-led learning, where the teacher is focused on asking the right questions and sparking curiosity.
Instead of learning biology with a pen and paper, students become biomedical researchers designing a tissue regeneration therapy. Instead of learning trigonometry in a textbook, students become rural architects designing a new school building.
“We’re building a whole new learning platform, methodology, and tech infrastructure that allows students to experience problems in the first person, not through abstractions or 2D screens, and then go from that experience to ascribe meaning, language, and build up to equations, procedures, and other nomenclature,” Ganguly explains.
Students can rotate their bodies to minimize the distance between a trend line and the data points, to find the line of best fit and formalize the concept of residuals.

Today PrismsVR has been used by about 300,000 students across 35 states. The company’s approach was shown to boost algebra test scores by 11 percent in one study, with larger, multistate studies currently underway through funding from the Gates Foundation.
“Education has been in desperate need of real reform for many years,” Ganguly says. “But what’s happened is we’ve just been digitizing old, antiquated teaching methods instead. We would take a lecture and make it a video, or take a worksheet and make it a web app. I think districts see us taking a more aspirational approach, with multimodal interaction and concepts at the center of learning design, and are collaborating with us to scale that instead. We want to get this to every single public school student across the U.S., and then we’re going into community colleges, higher ed, and international.”
A new paradigm for learning
Ganguly was an undergraduate and master’s student in MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. When she began as an undergrad in 2003, she estimates that women made up about 30 percent of her class in the department, but as she advanced in her studies, that number seemed to dwindle.
“It was a disappearing act for some students, and I became inspired to understand what’s happening at the K-12 levels that set some students up for success and led to fragile foundations for others,” Ganguly recalls.
As she neared the end of her graduate program in 2009, Ganguly planned to move to California to take an engineering job. But as she was walking through MIT’s Infinite Corridor one day, a sign caught her eye. It was for Teach for America, which had collaborated with MIT to recruit students into the field of teaching, particularly for high need and high poverty students.
“I was inspired by that idea that I could use my education, engineering background, and disciplined systems thinking to think through systemic change in the public sector,” says Ganguly, who became a high school physics and algebra teacher in the Boston Public Schools.
Ganguly soon left the classroom and became director of math for the district, where she oversaw curriculum and teacher upskilling. From there, Ganguly went to New York City Public Schools, where she also supported curriculum development, trying to relate abstract math concepts to students’ experiences in the real world.
“As I began to travel from school to school, working with millions of kids, I became convinced that we don’t have the tools to solve the problem I thought about at MIT — of truly leveling the playing field and building enduring identities in the mathematical sciences,” Ganguly says.
The problem as Ganguly sees it is that students’ world is 3D, complex, and multimodal. Yet most lessons are confined to paper or tablets. For other things in life, students learn through their complex experiences: through their senses, movement, and emotions. Why should math and science be any different? In 2018, the Oculus Quest VR headset was released, and Ganguly thought she had found a more effective learning medium to scale how we learn.
But starting an education company based on virtual reality at the time was audacious. The 128-gigabyte Quest was priced at $500, and there were no standards-based VR curricula or standalone VR headsets in U.S. K-12 schools.
“Investors weren’t going to touch this,” Ganguly jokes.
Luckily, Ganguly received a small amount of funding from the National Science Foundation to build her first prototype. Ganguly started with Algebra 1; performance in this class is one of the top predictors of lifetime wages but has shown a stubbornly persistent achievement gap.
Her first module, which she built during the pandemic, places students in a food hall when a sudden announcement from the mayor rings out. There’s an alarming growth of an unknown virus in the area. The students get the power to travel back in time to see how the virus is spreading, from one person’s sneeze to many people’s behaviors in a demonstration of multiplicative growth.
The people turn to dots in a simulation as the journey moves to interactive, tactile data visualization, and the students are charged with figuring out how many weeks until the hospitals run out of capacity. Once the learning design for VR was established, Ganguly continued to build experiences across the curriculum in geometry, algebra II and III, biology, chemistry, and middle school subjects. Today Prisms covers all math and science subjects in grades seven to eleven, and the company is currently building out calculus, data science, and statistics for upper and postsecondary school. By the fall of 2025, Prisms will have evergreen content up to grade level 14.
Following the experiences, students gather in small groups to reflect on the lessons and write summaries. As students go through their virtual experiences, teachers have a web dashboard to monitor each child’s progress to support and intervene where needed.
“With our solution, the role of the teacher is to be Socrates and to ask high-quality questions, not deliver knowledge” Ganguly says.
As a solo founder, Ganguly says support from MIT’s Venture Mentoring Service, which offers members of the MIT community startup guidance in the form of “board meetings” led by successful entrepreneurs, was crucial.
“The MIT founder community is different,” Ganguly says. “We’re often technical founders, building for ourselves, and we build our company’s first product. Moving from product to your go-to-market strategy and hiring is a unique journey for product-minded founders.”
From textbooks to experiences
A few years ago, Ganguly’s team was leading a classroom coaching session in a Virginia school district when a teacher told her about a student named Silas.
“The teacher was saying, ‘Silas never does anything, he just sits in the back of class,’” Ganguly recalls. “I’ve seen this like clockwork, so we just said, ‘Let’s give Silas a fresh shot and see what we can do.’ Lo and behold, Silas was the first one to finish the module and write a full synthesis report. The teacher told me that was the first time Silas has turned in an assignment with everything filled in.”
Ganguly says it’s one of thousands of anecdotes she has.
“A lot of students feel shut out of the modern math classroom because of our stubborn approach of drill and kill,” Ganguly says. “Students want to learn through great stories. They want to help people. They want to be empathetic. They want their math education to matter.”
Ganguly sees PrismsVR as a fundamentally new way for students to learn no matter where they are.
“We intend to become the next textbook,” Ganguly says. “The next textbooks will be spatial and experiential.”
